SCC Scholarship FAQs
What are the requirements for applying for scholarships?
- In order to apply for scholarships, you must have a Los Rios student ID number.
- All applicants must have completed a minimum of six units at Sacramento City College and must be enrolled in a minimum of six units at Sacramento City College.
- At least one letter of recommendation is required for all scholarships. You must provide the name and email address for the person who will be providing one for you in the General Application. Start thinking about who can do this for you early. A faculty member, counselor, or employer are all good options. You may want to talk to them about providing you a recommendation first, and even provide them with an educational resume.
How do I apply for scholarships?
- Visit losrios.academicworks.com and click on the "Sign In" button at the top right-hand corner using your Student ID Number.
- Complete the General Application. The more information you provide, the more likely you are to be awarded a scholarship.
- This single application will be used to auto-match you to any of the hundreds of scholarship opportunities for which you qualify.
- You will also be presented with additional scholarships for which you MAY be eligible. These scholarships require more information, like an additional essay question, a transcript, or an answer to several questions.
- Note: You will not see all the scholarships that you have been matched to, but your application will be in the pool to be reviewed by our readers.
How many scholarships may I apply for or be awarded?
There is no limit to how many scholarships you can apply for or be awarded.
Am I allowed to apply for other Los Rios scholarships—scholarships at ARC, CRC, and FLC?
You may apply as long as you meet each college’s eligibility requirements. In general, you must be enrolled in at least six units at an individual college to apply for scholarships at that college.
Do I need a high GPA to qualify?
Many of the scholarships are not based on GPA.
Can I apply if I won awards last year?
Yes. We encourage qualified students to apply even if they have previously received a scholarship.
I missed the application deadline. What happens now?
Unfortunately, incomplete applications will not be considered for any scholarship. Please submit your application before the deadline.
My recommendation letter has not yet been submitted. What do I do?
If you feel a sufficient amount of time has passed since you asked for a recommendation, you may send a reminder through AcademicWorks. As a safeguard, you may choose to ask another person for a recommendation.
How do I fix my applicant record if it isn’t correct?
Contact the Admissions & Records Office and their staff can help you.
Who is reviewing my applications and awarding scholarships?
The review committee is comprised of SCC faculty and staff who are dedicated to maintaining the integrity of the scholarship awarding process.
When will I find out if I received a scholarship?
All applicants will be sent an email alerting them of the status of their scholarship. The notification is either a congratulatory award letter or a letter of regret. Notifications will be sent in May.
If you are awarded a scholarship, you are required to accept your scholarship by clicking on the link within the email asking you to officially accept your award. Applicants who did not receive a scholarship will also be notified via email in May.
