Panther Cares logoWe know many of our students face challenges that include food insecurity and homelessness. SCC has created the Panther Cares Program to provide one central location for students in need, and the Panther Cares Fund helps to support these basic needs services. When you make a gift to Panther Cares, you help our students stay on the path to completion!

Panther Cares Programs

Panther Cares Food Distribution

Panther Paw Produce is a twice-weekly food distribution done in partnership with the Sacramento Food Bank. It is open to all SCC students. During the pandemic, food distribution has been held on a once-monthly basis as a drive-through distribution in front of Hughes Stadium. We will continue with these drive-through distributions until we are able to safely resume them in person, and we hope to increase the frequency of them in the 2021-22 academic year as our campus moves towards reopening. Panther Cares support the food that can be distributed to students in need.

Emergency Hotel Stays

Los Rios Community College District has a partnership with Extended Stay America which allows us to provide up to two weeks of emergency stays for homeless students. This program was originally funded by donors to the Covid-19 Relief Fund, but the Panther Cares fund will be funding emergency stays for SCC students going forward. The Panther Cares funds also provide a limited number of grocery gift cards to support the students who are a part of the Emergency Hotel Stays program so they can purchase food.

Gowns for Grads

Our Gowns for Grads program, now part of Panther Cares, provides a cap and gown to students who are unable to afford a gown purchase or rental. This gives them the chance to participate in their community college commencement and to celebrate all they have accomplished at SCC!

Basic Needs Center Program Support

Sacramento City College will soon have a new Basic Needs Center, which will combine the various basic needs supports for students into a one place, thereby making it easier for students find assistance for everything they may need. The Panther Cares funds supports program needs within the Basic Needs Center and allows the staff the flexibility to create and offer programs that make a significant difference to our students.

Emergency Fund

The Los Rios Colleges Foundation Student Emergency Fund  provides immediate financial assistance (usually within 24 hours) to students involved in catastrophic or unexpected emergency situations. Student may receive emergency grants of up to $500. Awards are contingent upon the availability of limited funds, provided through generous donations.

City Hub

City Hub is a powerful search engine that helps identify free or reduced-cost services at SCC and in the Sacramento region. Service categories include food, housing, transit, health, money, care, education, job placement, and legal services.
