Reading and Writing Lab

The Reading and Writing Lab is open to students enrolled in ENGLB 55 (a 0.5-unit, credit/no-credit course). Any student who wants to work on and improve their reading and writing skills may enroll. This course is also a co-requisite class for students who are simultaneously taking ENGRD 10, ENGRD 11, ENGRD 110, and ENGWR 110.

The Reading and Writing Lab offers individualized practice in all areas of reading comprehension and writing skill development. Students meet regularly with their Lab instructor to discuss and review their plan of study.

How It Works

  1. Enroll in the ENGLB 55 section through eServices that corresponds with your English Reading, Writing, or other college courses.
    • For example, if you are enrolled in ENGWR 300, enroll in the corresponding ENGLB 55 section for ENGWR 300 students.
    • Review the "ENGLB 55 Instructor Schedule" at the bottom of the page.
    • If you receive financial aid, tuition for this course may be covered.
  2. On your first day of Reading and Writing Lab, please bring:
    • A copy of your schedule (paper or electronic) to verify ENGLB 55 enrollment
    • Your Student Access Card (student ID)

What Can Tutors Help Me With?

Reading and Writing Lab tutors provide one-on-one assistance to students in all areas of reading comprehension and writing skill development. In addition to receiving assistance from tutors and instructors, students develop their reading and writing skills through guided practice from texts, handouts, and instructional videos.
