<p>This non-performance course is an introduction to American cultural diversity in and through theatre. The course will identify, compare, and contrast the cultural identities, histories, and artistic expressions of Asian/Pacific Americans; Black/African Americans; Chicano/Latino/Hispanic Americans; European-Americans; Native Americans; and multi-racial/multi-ethnicity/multi-nationality and immigrant groups. The social, cultural, and political contexts that shaped these works will also be discussed. Constructs of race, ethnicity, class, gender, and sexuality will be examined and compared cross-culturally. Topics will be covered through readings, lectures, discussions, and required attendance at live play productions, on campus, and at professional or community theaters.</p>
