Home Academics Programs and Majors Types of Academic Programs

Academic programs are designed to provide you with career and technical training within a variety of fields, and/or prepare you for transfer to four-year universities.

SCC offers academic programs leading towards:

Certificate Programs

These prepare you to go directly into the workforce with a specific set of skills or to advance in your current career. Certificate programs do not typically require general education and most programs are completed within a couple of semesters.

Associate Degree Programs

These provide a broad exploration of a specific area of emphasis and can also prepare you for careers in technical fields. Most associate degree programs provide a solid foundation for entering the workforce or furthering academic studies for students wanting to transfer to a university.

Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT)

These are intended for students who plan to complete a bachelor's degree in a similar major at a California State University (CSU) campus. Students earning an ADT are guaranteed admission into the CSU system, but not to a particular major or CSU campus.

Transfer to 4-Year University

This means beginning your bachelor's degree here and finishing it at a four-year college. Students can satisfy the university's lower-division general education and major requirements, as well as earn California State University General Education- breadth pattern (CSU-GE) or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum pattern (IGETC) certifications along the way. If you're planning on transferring, consult a counselor for specific course planning and university admission requirements.
