Dana Armstrong
Faculty Coordinator
My name is Dana Armstrong, and I am the faculty coordinator of the West Sacramento Writing Center. My education began at Modesto Junior College where I took advantage of several work- and study-abroad programs. I eventually transferred to U.C. Berkeley where I studied Comparative Literature. After graduating, I lived in Mexico for five months, studying Spanish and traveling around the country. I earned my graduate degree from U.C. Davis and have also taken Composition courses at San Francisco State University. I began my teaching career at Chabot College in Hayward and now have been teaching at Sacramento City College for nearly twenty years.
Katie Seruset
Instructional Assistant
Hello, all! My name is Katie Seruset. I graduated from CSU Sacramento with a bachelor’s degree in English in 2019. For the past two years, I have been teaching writing and peer review workshops at CSUS, and am excited to meet people from various fields of study through the West Sac Writing Center. I am currently working on my graduate thesis in Literature at CSUS with a specialty in satire. When I am done with my degree, I hope to pursue publication, a PhD in genre studies, and teaching at the community-college and university levels. When I am not in school or working with others on their writing, I enjoy going to concerts, laughing with friends, and watching tv and movies with my husband and two cats. Feel free to email me if you have any questions or want to work on some writing together – I look forward to meeting you!
Nick Stockman
Instructional Assistant
Hi! My name is Nick Stockman. I graduated from UC Davis in 2015 with a Bachelor’s degree in English. For the past four years, I have been substitute teaching in Placer County, working primarily in elementary and middle schools. I now attend Sac State, where I am working towards a Master’s degree in Creative Writing and a certificate in Teaching Composition. I’m planning on pursuing a PhD in literature afterwards, which will enable me––hopefully!––to teach English at the university level. When I’m not at school or tutoring at the WSC Writing Center, I’m usually at a coffeeshop reading, in the studio recording music, or at home watching movies. If you have any questions or simply want to talk (about writing, books, music, films, etc.), please feel free to drop in or email me.

Hi, my name is Matthew Metzger, and I am a current student at Sacramento State working towards getting my bachelor’s degree in English. I transferred from Sacramento City College in 2020 and I got my Associates in Arts – English. After I complete my education, I want to apply my skills in the field of technical writing.
Besides that, I like to help others with writing! I think that writing is an important skill set for everyone to have and practice. If you need any help with your writing assignments, resume, or cover letter I am more than happy to help!

Nicole Lazo
Master Tutor
Hi everyone, my name is Nicole Lazo! I started my higher education journey with SCC in 2015. In 2019, I graduated with associate's degrees in Interdisciplinary Studies and Language Studies. I transferred to UC Davis, where I double-majored in International Relations and Art History. After earning my bachelor's in 2021, I started a graduate program for a master’s in Art History and Visual Culture. While I was a student at SCC, I really enjoyed the Writing Center and realized how much sharing my writing helped me through school. I am super happy to come back to SCC as a master tutor in the Writing Center. I hope to gain experience working with students because I also want to become an Art History teacher in the future. I am also a wife, a mother to an 11-year-old boy, and a salsa dance instructor. My family's favorite hobby is traveling the world together!
