Math/Stats Tutoring Lab

The Math/Stats Tutoring Lab is a free service on campus that provides tutoring for students taking mathematics and statistics courses at Sacramento City College, or otherwise need mathematics/statistics support for their SCC classes. We are available to all students at any skill level. We provide both appointment and in-person tutoring, workshops, and resources to students. Although we strive to pre-enroll students in the Math/Stats Lab, sometimes you may need to enroll in the course.

How It Works

Once enrolled in a math or stats class at SCC, you’ll soon notice a Math/Stats tutoring lab on your Canvas dashboard.

From the front page of this Canvas shell, you will find a link that will get you into our virtual tutoring environment: a large “Get Help Now!” image and link.

For tutoring, we use a combination of Zoom and GoBoard, and tutors and students work together in individual rooms.  Our Virtual Space employs students that will welcome you and help you on your path to success in Math and Stats! The tutoring is best experienced if you have a laptop or tablet and Wifi access.  Note that Chromebooks are available for students who qualify (Chromebook loaner requirements) and you can access campus Wifi this Fall on campus.

Having Issues with Enrolling?

If you do not see a Math/Stats Tutoring Lab Canvas shell or invite in your Canvas dashboard, and/or do not see HSER1000 (course code #15931) then please enroll in this course via eServices.  There is no permission number needed no matter where we are in the semester.

If you are having issues after attempting to enroll, please e-mail Halsey Boyd (Math/Stats Tutoring Lab coordinator) at BoydhH@scc.losrios.eduand he will assist you.

What Can Tutors Help Me With?

Math/Stats Lab tutors and instructional assistants are available by Zoom teleconference to assist you on an as-needed basis while you do your coursework. Pop into the room when you need help when we are open, or leave your question in the moderated Question and Answer (Q&A) Student Lounge.

The tutor’s goal is to help you get to a point of critical and independent thought, so you can be successful working through problems on your own.

At times when the lab is less busy, you may be able to get more individualized help with a tutor who can sit down with you for an extended period of time.
