ESL Lab

The ESL Center offers intensive English language exposure (texts and literature, audio and visual media, & computer and web programs) to help you improve your success rate in all classes.

The ESL Center has a wealth of materials, carefully arranged and selected for your specific level and focus.  There is an ESL faculty member present during all hours that the lab is open, as well as student tutors and an instructional assistant, all happy to assist all students enrolled in the lab courses.

Do all ESL students take the ESL lab?

Students taking ESL Integrated Reading + Writing classes should register immediately for 0.5 units of the matching ESL Skills Lab they want (see chart below and ESLLAB courses 30-40-50-60-70-80) and then select a time during their first class meeting.

Students taking ESLG (Grammar), ESLL (Listening/Speaking), or other ESL classes should register immediately for 0.5 units of the matching ESL Support Lab they want (see chart below and ESLLAB courses 31-41-51-61-71) and then select a time during their first class meeting.

Labs are highly recommended for more skill-building, academic support, practice time, and increased contact with instructors to improve your chances of success in every course.

I'm taking an ESL class, so what lab do I take?

Match your Core Class (37, 47, 55, 315, 325, W 340) with the Skills Lab beside it. If you are in a class with less than six units, please use the Support Lab option.
