B151 Tutoring Lab Closed

Starting Wednesday, March 18, 2020, all campus facilities will be closed to all students, faculty, staff, and community members; however instructional, student services, and operational responsibilities will continue online or remotely.

Online Tutoring available through Canvas

Tutors from B151 Lab are available online.

Summer Semester 2020

Students who wish to participate in online tutoring through the B151 Lab, and given access to our Canvas Tutoring area, please email your student ID number to William Son Nguyen at

Fall Semester 2020

Students who wish to participate in online tutoring (and on campus, when it opens) through the B151 Lab should register for HSER 1000 (Section 17370), and will have access to online tutoring through our Canvas Tutoring area once the semester starts.

The Business & Computer Information Science (CIS) tutoring and study labs are available to students enrolled in at least one Business or CIS Division class. The two labs are a convenient place to study between classes and offer course materials, tutoring, computers, internet access, Wi-Fi, and printing.

This lab offers tutoring to CIS students.

How It Works

Come to the lab, BUS 151 or BUS 153, and sign in at the front desk.

Who Are the Tutors?

The labs are staffed by a coordinator, instructional assistants and student tutors.

The typing tests will be available when the school campus reopens.

Who Is Eligible to Get Tested?

This service is provided for Sacramento City College students who are currently enrolled. Student/employee ID will be checked.

Location and Hours

Typing tests will be given in the Business Division Computer Lab, B151. Testing times are only during lab hours and by appointment only. Tests are unavailable when the lab closes on weekends and during school semester breaks.

Guidelines for the Certified Testing

  • Ten-minute warm-up
  • The timings are five minutes long
  • You will be given up to two attempts on each of two different timings. This results in up to four tries total.
  • The maximum number of errors allowed per timing is five. Letters of Certification are issued only for timings with five or fewer errors.
  • If you do not reach your goal in the four total tries you are given, you can set up an appointment to return for re-testing. A maximum of three testing visits is allowed even if you are attempting to get an additional letter of certification showing a higher score.
  • The Letter of Certification will be printed on Sacramento City College letterhead. It will include the following information:
    • Student’s or employee’s name
    • Length of the timing
    • Words per minute (WPM) typed
    • Number of errors made
    • Current date
    • Keyboarding staff’s name printed, signature, title, phone number, and e-mail address
  • When requesting an appointment by email, please include your student/employee ID number.
