Math/Stats Tutoring Lab
The Math/Stats Tutoring Lab is here to support and guide you when you need a boost in your math or stats class.
We are located in Learning Resources Center (LRC) Room 144. Go through the entrance to the LRC and we are through the glass doors just past and to the right of the welcome desk.
Beyond accessing tutoring online or in-person to help you, we also have a safe space for you to:
- sit and study alone or with friends
- get a tour of campus
- ask questions on navigating campus that we will either know or find somebody who does
- warm up your lunch
- have some coffee (we have a coffee maker we make a pot every morning)
You can also borrow math-related books to read and use the lab’s computers.
For those with basic food needs, we work to stock a donation-based supply or things like ramen and oatmeal; access to this limited food pantry is for math/stats lab enrolled students only. We also work with our food pantry and CalFresh on Tuesdays for things like oranges, carrots, apples, and bananas.
We are inclusive of all students, and strive to have an intersectional perspective. We share the space and collaborate with other tutoring centers. Collectively we are known as PARC - the Panther Academic Resource Community.
Enrolling in the Math/Stats Lab
The Math/Stats Lab is associated with a course called HSER1000, which has a course code of #16500. If you are enrolled, you will notice that “HSER 1000 Supervised Tutoring” is on your course schedule. You may also notice in your Canvas dashboard that a “Math Lab Fall ‘24” panel appears. This Canvas course is your portal to get help and offers useful resources and information.
You will have no assignments for the Math Lab; it is there for you to get support. You will need to add this course code to your schedule. You can come into lab for help anytime with adding the course.
This is not a course like you normally take. It’s a lab that you drop into for help when needed, or make a regular appointment. There are no assignments, but we can help you with the assignments you have in your math/stats courses. In this lab you can work independently or in groups; you can hang out as you wait for a ride; it’s a space for you. There are computers you can also use.
The drop-in tutoring process is easy: clock in when you arrive and clock out when you leave.
For online appointments, the Penji app controls the sessions. Please check Penji for available appointments.
