Re-Emerging Scholars Center
Re-Emerging Scholars provides meaningful support in the lives of justice-involved and formerly-incarcerated students looking to take steps toward a new path. The program supports students at any level–from the enrollment process through successful completion of education and career support.
What Is Re-Emerging Scholars?
Campus Resource Center
We provide programming, support, and a safe space for formerly incarcerated and justice-impacted students, including:
- Assistance with enrollment and financial aid
- Weekly check-in sessions with faculty
- Counseling, case management, and therapy
- Workshops on personal development and career readiness
- Mentoring: a peer-to-peer mentoring program
- Community resource referrals and support
- Money: emergency funding and scholarships
- Support: study skills support, school supplies, snacks, and t-shirts
- University connections to CSUS, UCD, and UCB programs
- A sense of community and a place to be
Cohort-Based Learning Community
A learning community for formerly incarcerated and justice-impacted students to complete personal, professional, and educational development courses with supportive faculty, staffing, and counseling toward transfer and career.
Students are enrolled in coordinated transfer-level courses:
- College Success
- Accelerated English Writing
- Sociology (with re-entry lens)
- Personal Finance or Accelerated Math/STATs
- Marriage and Family
- Internship
- Nutrition
- Public Speaking
- an additional group study course
After their first year, cohort students can be nearly 75% of the way through their General Education requirements.
Clubs
Two campus clubs for all formerly incarcerated and system-impacted students to:
- engage with Re-Emerging Scholars
- find community and fellowship
- continue to build a pro-social network
- support sobriety
- engage in advocacy
- attend campus and community events
