Farewell Panthers and Welcome to Interim President Dr. Albert Garcia
May 19, 2022

A note from Michael Gutierrez to the Sacramento City College Panthers Community.
Dear Panthers –
Five years ago, when I was selected to lead Sacramento City College as the new President, I couldn’t have imagined the amazing students, faculty and staff that I would come to call part of my Panther family. We have been together for some wonderful celebrations, historical moments and unforeseen hurdles and through it all have remained committed to live up to our nickname “The People’s College.”
I’ve learned so much from you, our students, and from working side by side with your dedicated faculty and classified professionals. As I prepare to leave City College to take a new position as the Superintendent and President of Hartnell College, I want you to know that you are in good hands. City College’s VP of Instruction Dr. Albert Garcia has agreed to serve as Interim President of Sacramento City College. My last official day will be June 30 and Dr. Garcia will officially begin the interim role on July 1. I will be working closely with Dr. Garcia to ensure a smooth transition in my remaining weeks and he will have support from our City College Executive Team and District Office leadership.
Dr. Garcia is a graduate of Benedictine University (EdD), the University of Montana (MFA), and Chico State (BA). He came to Sacramento City College in 1991 as an English Professor after teaching for four years at College of the Sequoias in Visalia, CA. At Sacramento City College, Dr. Garcia has served in a variety of roles including a professor, Dean, Vice President of Instruction, and Acting President.
We anticipate that a national search for a permanent City College President will be conducted in the fall.
City College and each and every one of our Panther family will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for welcoming me and making these past five years unforgettable.
Sincerely,
Michael Gutierrez
President
