AIRNESS
By Chelsea Marcantel
Directed by Jason Long
Looking for a little rock-and-roll escapism? Or perhaps a play that's "fricking funny, hella heartfelt, and badass brilliant!” (in the words of critic J. Stoltenberg). Then don't miss your chance to see American River College Theatre's production of "Airness" by Chelsea Marcantel. This hilarious play, joyfully sweeping the nation since its debut in 2020 at Benchmark Theatre, is now on ARC's stage—but only until February 25!
Directed by Jason Long, "Airness" follows the path of Nina who is entering her first air guitar competition. She thinks winning will be easy. But then she befriends a group of charismatic nerds, including Shreddy Eddy, Golden Thunder, D. Visious, Facebender, and more. Their passion for the art of air guitar is truly contagious, and as Nina is surrounded by their commitment to becoming the next champion, she discovers that there's more to this art form than playing pretend. It's about finding yourself in your favorite songs, and performing with raw joy. It's no wonder the Chicago Reader described the show as "“Unmitigated pleasure… filled with dignity and delight.” Airness is an exuberant reminder that everything we need to rock is already inside us.
- All performances of Airness will be at American River College's mainstage Theatre, 4700 College Oak Drive, Sacramento.
- The show will be ASL interpreted Sunday, Feb. 25.
- Parking is $2 next to the theatre at the corner of College Oak and Myrtle.
