Links for the last week
~ 19. July 2010 ~
I’ve been experimenting with various “auto-post” options, using this blog’s remote posting plugin. A few have come from my Delicious account, but it turns out that can only be done daily or not at all. So this comes from Diigo–which generally tries to tame what Delicious does and add a slew of features. Problem, however, is that the auto-posting is not yet working, so this one’s manual (though sent directly from the Diigo site).
-
4-week course. Video accessible via iTunes U or Academic Earth.
-
Building iPhone Apps with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Free e-book, focuses on building web apps optimized for iPhone.
-
Python for Software Design: How to Think Like a Computer Scientist
Free e-book recommended for beginners.
-
Online 3-week Javascript course, synchronous or asynchronous, costs $9.95.
-
Administered through a nonprofit public benefit corporation formed by the Washington Unified School District (WUSD), Sacramento City College and UC Davis. UCD/SCC faculty help steer curriculum, but don’t teach classes. Students encouraged to take classes at SCC West Sac Center. Grades 6-12
-
Hope, Hype and VoIP: Riding the Library Technology Cycle
First chapter of new book by Char Booth, freely downloadable.
-
Free LIS e-books. “over 140 titles” Publishers include Emerald, Greenwood, others. Didn’t see a lot of interesting content, but potentially.
-
Helium - Where Knowledge Rules
Fabulous site for demonstrating problems of user-generated content. Provides links to author pages that often demonstrate a total lack of authority. Check e.g. “How BP Gulf disaster may have triggered a ‘world-killing’ event”
-
Bounce – A fun and easy way to share ideas on a website
Captures screenshot of live website, provides elegant bordering + notes interface (better than Diigo, SharedCopy, etc.), and public link. But it grabs the screenshot itself, so can’t use with authenticated pages.
-
Dynamic Drive- Links and Tooltips
Lots of possibilities here for adding explanatory tips to image map (or anything else). Many rely on mouseover, need to modify this for mobile devices.
